Harvesting Fiddleheads Sustainably
Film preview: Gifts and Wisdom from an Intact Forest Ecology
This clip shares how to identify, sustainably harvest and propagate Fiddleheads. An excerpt from our latest short film, ‘Gifts and Wisdom from an Intact Forest Ecology’, which speaks to the abundance of the forest floor in the early spring when an ecology is intact. Many of these early spring plants are ephemerals, which is defined as woodland perennial wildflowers that emerge, bloom, and set seed rapidly in early spring before deciduous trees grow leaves, creating a canopy.
These plants are easily damaged by logging, over-harvesting and invasive plants. We are grateful to have these spaces around us and to share what a respectful, honourable relationship with plant kin can look like.
